Nepali Congress rules out unity govt.

May 31, 2015 01:43 am | Updated 01:43 am IST - KATHMANDU:

With its coalition partners and main Opposition party intensifying discussions for the formation of a “national unity government”, the Nepali Congress on Saturday said the priority should be on drafting a new Constitution and working together on post-earthquake reconstruction.

Drafting a Constitution

Senior leaders of the NC met at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar and concluded that unity government was not a priority.

“At present, drafting the Constitution through consensus should be our priority,” party Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu said after the meeting.

All the parties in the Constituent Assembly had set a deadline to deliver the Constitution by January 22, 2015 which they failed to meet. The parties have not been able to resolve differences over federalism, system of governance and judiciary.
