Nepal Maoist youth wing stages show of strength

February 25, 2015 12:01 am | Updated 12:01 am IST - KATHMANDU:

The youth wing of the UCPN (Maoist) on Tuesday staged a march past in the heart of the capital to express their intent for the rally on February 28, said a leader.

“The youth march past was held so as to convey the message that we are coming in a powerful way,” said Young Communist League (YCL) Chairman Ganesh Man Pun. “This is also a preparation for the February 28 protest programme.”

Wearing red caps emblazoned with words “YCL volunteer” and bamboo sticks in hand, they went around the heart of Kathmandu. The YCL, the youth wing of he UCPN (Maoist), had been lying low after receiving a lot of criticism for its “unruly” activities. In 2008 and 2009, there were calls to disband it, along with the youth wings of other political parties.
