Iran’s official news agency says one of the country’s Vice-Presidents under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been arrested, the second such high-profile detention among officials of the former administration.
IRNA’s report quotes judicial spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehi as saying that Hamid Baghaei, who was Mr. Ahmadinejad’s Vice-President in charge of executive affairs, was arrested on Monday. There were no further details.
Mr. Ahmadinejad’s administration ended in 2013.
In January, Iran’s supreme court convicted and >sentenced former Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi to five years in prison and fined him 10 billion rials ($300,000).
The verdict came after repeated allegations by foes of Mr. Ahmadinejad’s hardline government of massive corruption.
Since taking over, President Hassan Rouhani has criticised growing corruption in the country in unusually blunt terms.
