Hasina warns against ‘unconstitutional takeover’

February 23, 2015 11:46 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 06:16 pm IST - DHAKA:

In the midst of a prolonged agitation to unseat her government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina brushed aside any possibility of an unconstitutional takeover. She also remarked that the violent nature of the Khaleda Zia-led movement ensures that it “lacks popular support”.

The Prime Minister, whose one year-old government has been facing a violent agitation by the opposition coalition led by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami-led, also alleged that former Prime Minister Ms. Zia was “looking to illegal way to grab state power”.

Ms. Hasina’s assertion came in the wake of a 48 day national blockade by the BNP-led combine in which at least 100 people have died.
