A surviving member of Charlie Hebdo’s editorial staff says the satirical newspaper devastated by this year’s terror attack needs a new team, but that the publication is more important than ever.
Patrick Pelloux, a writer and doctor who was among the first to arrive at the Charlie Hebdo offices after the Jan. 7 massacre during a staff meeting, announced he was leaving in September, shortly after the last issue featuring drawings by Luz, a surviving cartoonist who also left.
In an interview on Thursday with iTele, Mr. Pelloux said the newspaper, attacked by French Islamic extremists who said they were avenging its cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, needed people to help “rediscover the meaning of caricature.”
Mr. Pelloux released a book this week honouring his slain colleagues.
