Sri Lankan presidential election - final result

The Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, was on Wednesday declared the winner in the presidential election held on Tuesday.

According to the all-island final result posted on the website of the island-nation's Department of Elections, Mr. Rajapaksa obtained 6,015,934 votes (57.88 per cent). His main opponent, Sarath Fonseka, secured 4,173,185 votes (40.15 per cent).
