Pakistan’s recently resigned foreign minister says his legal advisers believe an American held for killing two Pakistanis does not qualify for blanket diplomatic immunity as Washington claims.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s comments could rattle apparent Pakistani efforts to pave a way to free Raymond Davis, who the U.S. says shot the Pakistanis in self—defence during a robbery. He spoke after meeting with U.S. Sen. John Kerry.
Another Pakistani official has said Pakistan will tell a court on Thursday that most of its legal experts believe Mr. Davis can’t be prosecuted.
But Mr. Qureshi said on Wednesday that if a court summons him, he would testify about his advisers’ comments, made when he was still minister. Mr. Qureshi stepped down last week, but remains influential.
