Times Square car bomb suspect Faisal Shahzad has agreed to let the government delay seeking an indictment against him while it continues discussions with his lawyer.
Federal prosecutors on Wednesday released paperwork saying they could delay until June 21 to decide on how to proceed with the charges in the May 1 attempted bombing — a sports utility vehicle (SUV) laden with gasoline and propane tanks was parked near a Broadway theatre but didn’t blow up.
Shahzad was arrested on May 3. The ex-budget analyst from Bridgeport, Connecticut, was on a Dubai-bound plane at a New York City airport.
Authorities say he cooperated with investigators for two weeks before asking for a lawyer.
Pakistan-born Shahzad was charged with attempted use of weapons of mass destruction and attempted acts of terrorism. A phone message left with his lawyer hasn’t been returned.
