Myanmar’s Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal by democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, of an 18-month extension of her house arrest.
The court posted the announcement on Friday on its notice board, setting the date for December 21.
Ms. Suu Kyi was convicted in August of violating her house arrest by briefly sheltering an American intruder. The Nobel Peace Prize winner has been detained for 14 of the past 20 years.
The Yangon Divisional Court rejected an initial appeal in October.
Serving the additional time would keep Ms. Suu Kyi in detention during Myanmar’s first elections in two decades, scheduled for next year.
