A mudslide caused by heavy rain buried more than 100 people on Monday in a village in south—western China’s Guizhou province, state media said.

Rescuers were trying to reach residents of Dazhai village in Guizhou’s Guanling county following the mid—afternoon mudslide, the official Xinhua news agency said.

The agency said a preliminary count recorded 107 people missing from 38 families in Dazhai.

Earlier reports said some 150 people were believed to be trapped in mud and debris.

Heavy rain over the past two weeks has caused floods and landslides that have killed more than 300 people across southern China.
