Beirut authorities announced on Monday that the remains found on the tyres of a flight from Beirut to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, belonged to a 20—year—old Lebanese man.
Lebanese police said the remains were those of a man who they said apparently was mentally disturbed.
According to police reports the man was a resident of Burj al— Barajneh, a neighbourhood close to Beirut’s Rafik Hariri international airport.
Unconfirmed reports said Haidar managed to cut a barbed wire fence and so make it onto the airport runway.
The remains of a body were found on the rear wheels of an airplane that flew from Beirut to the Saudi capital of Riyadh on Saturday.
Airport officials said that passengers on the flight operated by the Saudi Arabian airline Nas Air reported seeing a man with a backpack running toward the plane shortly before it took off.
The passengers alerted the crew but the flight continued on to Saudi Arabia. The remains were only discovered once the plane was inspected in Saudi Arabia after it landed.
The incident has raised questions about security at Lebanon’s Rafik Hariri international airport, a Lebanese security source said.
