Jettison LTTE agenda, Diaspora told

February 25, 2010 01:42 am | Updated 03:27 am IST - COLOMBO:

The International Crisis Group (ICG) has urged the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora to jettison the failed Tamil Eelam agenda of the LTTE. Instead, they should pursue the quest for a just peace in a united Sri Lanka. The Brussels-based independent NGO has a branch here.

In its 29-page report titled “The Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora after the LTTE”, the ICG is blunt in its assertion that after 26 years of exhaustion from the war, an overwhelming majority of Sri Lankan Tamils has no stomach for return to militant politics.

As per the ICG, however, in sharp contrast to the Sri Lankan Tamils, only a minority of Diaspora is happy over LTTE's defeat and still continues to dream of Tamil Eelam that has virtually no domestic or international backing.

It also urged Colombo to address the legitimate grievances behind the conflict.
