June 11, 2010 11:08 pm | Updated 11:08 pm IST - Dubai:

An Indian technician in Sharjah killed himself in an elevator he was responsible for maintaining, complaining that his company had not paid him for over six months.

The 30-year-old's body was found in the pit of a lift installed in a 43-storey residential building. The body was found along with a suicide note on June 6. The police did not name the deceased, the Gulf News reported.

In the note, the man said his company had not paid him for six months and that his family in India was facing financial hardships.

The police said the man tied a rope around his neck before stepping inside the lift pit and tying the other end to the bottom of the lift, the report said. He was believed to have died instantly when a tenant took the lift up.

But unknown to residents, his body remained hanging in the shaft for three days and kept on being crushed each time the lift went up and down.
