German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle arrived in Egypt on Saturday, the second stop of a Middle East trip, to discuss the Middle East Peace process.

The German official is due to meet with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul—Gheit.

During his visit, Westerwelle is also to meet with Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak.

During the tour, which will also take Mr. Westerwelle to Syria and Jordan, the German minister will hold talks with Arab officials to help push for the US—brokered indirect Palestinian—Israeli negotiations to become direct talks.

Earlier Saturday, while visiting Lebanon, Mr. Westerwelle confirmed his country’s commitment to the Mideast peace process. He also met with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman and Lebanese Foreign Minister Ali Chami.

After the talks with Mr. Suleiman, Mr. Westerwelle expressed his satisfaction with the stability prevailing in Lebanon.

He also vowed his country’s continued participation in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
