Biden holds meeting with UN’s Iraq envoy

US Vice President Joe Biden has held a meeting with Ad Melkert, UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Iraq and discussed developments in that country, according to the White House.

During the meeting, the Vice President offered continued US government support for the indispensable role of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq and thanked Melkert for his leadership.

“They discussed preparations for the upcoming national elections and pledged to help the Iraqis resolve outstanding national unity issues,” the White House said.
