Bid to extend CA's term

The government of Nepal on Tuesday asked political parties to vote in favour of a Bill to amend the interim constitution to add a year to the Constituent Assembly's (CA) term, which expires on Friday.

The major opposition party, the UCPN (Maoist), which had earlier stood against the extension of the CA's term has now shown flexibility. But the party said on Tuesday that it wanted the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal first. On the other hand, the Prime Minister says he will quit only after the extension.

Meanwhile, the discussion on the amendment bill was put off for the second time on Tuesday as the meeting of the legislature parliament could not be held.
