The US Geological Survey says an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 has struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of western Panama.
The quake struck at 3:54 am on Monday, 20 km off Punta de Burica, close to the border with Costa Rica. It was at a relatively shallow depth of 20 km.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no danger of a tsunami, and there were no immediate reports of damage.
