Helicopters began flying as attacks began in Paris: Indian diplomat

The diplomat said throughout the night Indians living in Paris and France reached out to the embassy

The multiple attacks that unfolded in Paris during the late Friday evening were all in the vicinity of the Indian embassy in Paris, said Manish Prabhat, Deputy Chief of the embassy, to The Hindu. The official confirmed that so far there are no reports of Indians being caught in the attack but the embassy is monitoring the situation for more updates. “We have been up through the night and till now (6:30 a.m. Paris time) we have not received information about Indians harmed in the attack. The embassy is located in Central Paris and the attacks took place nearby,” he informed.

Nevertheless the diplomat said throughout the night Indians living in Paris and France reached out to the embassy: “In response, we have kept the office no +330140507070 open for all Indians in Paris and France.”

He said that embassy officials were kept awake throughout the night by the noise of the hovering helicopters in the air. The attack that began at 10:30 p.m. went on as TV channels provided live visuals of the public anxiety in Paris. Indian community especially the Sikh gurdwaras opened up to those in need soon after the attack was reported on local TV, Mr. Prabhat told The Hindu. “There was a lot of commotion outside when the attacks began,” he said.

The Friday evening attack appears to be the largest ever terror strike on the European soil as casualty figure appears to continues to climb with horrific injuries to the wounded being reported. The real magnitude of the attacks, Mr. Prabhat said is yet to be discovered as it is still very early morning in Paris. “We are continuously monitoring the situation and are in touch with the French authorities,” Mr. Prabhat told The Hindu explaining that the multiple attacks have been contained and Indian ambassador Dr. Mohan Kumar will provide further updates during the day on Twitter.
