History sheeter murdered

A history sheeter was found murdered at a vacant spot on the margins of Perumbakkam Lake near Tambaram on Monday. Pallikaranai police who are investigating said that residents living in the margins of the lake noticed a man’s body amidst the bushes around 1 p.m. When policemen reached the spot, they noticed the victim’s head smashed and his throat slit.The victim had a cell phone in his shirt pocket. From his last dialled numbers, they were able to speak to his wife, who established his identity.

Police said the victim was Vignesh (39). Hailing from Kakkanpuram in Saidapet, he had moved to Ambedkar Nagar in Medavakkam six months ago. He was involved in murder cases in Guindy, Saidapet and Velachery police station limits. He was recently released from prison after his involvement in a murder case, police added.

Chain snatched

A gold chain weighing about seven sovereigns was snatched by an unidentified youth from a woman while she was alone at her shop in Sembakkam near Tambaram on Tuesday evening. The youth tricked the woman and had reportedly sprayed a chemical substance to make her unconscious before relieving her of the gold chain.

Selaiyur police said D. Anusha was a resident of Seventh Cross Street in Samraj Nagar, Sembakkam. She was running a petty shop near her home. Around 5 p.m., a youth came to her shop and asked for soft drink.

He drank two bottles of soft drinks and gave her a 100 rupee note. While she was trying to get the change, the youth said he will collect it later as he was waiting for two more of his friends. He stayed in the shop for nearly 30 minutes. At the opportune time, he diverted her attention, assaulted the woman and had reportedly sprayed the chemical substance and snatched the gold chain. He then walked a little distance away to the street corner, where he had parked his motorcycle and sped away, police sources added. Special crime teams are investigating.
