Risk quotient up between First Main Road and Santoshapuram

This section of Velachery Main Road is plunged in darkness after sunset

After sunset, poor lighting is a cause of anxiety for motorists and pedestrians taking a stretch of Velachery Main Road — between Santoshpuram and First Main Road, Vijayanagaram, Medavakkam.

On a few other poorly-lit sections of Velachery Main Road, the bad situation is ameliorated by lights from commercial establishments. On this section, there are not many commercial establishments and it is often plunged in darkness.

Given the speed with which motorists drive through this section in the late evening hours, lack of illumination severely compromises their safety, says K. Murali, a motorist.

Besides, there isn’t a proper walking space for pedestrians. Towards Medavakkam Main Road, the area abutting Nanmangalam Reserve Forest area is littered with all kinds of waste.

Calls to Medavakkam Village Panchayat office failed to evoke any response.
