Cadre of the Youth Congress on Friday held a rail roko at the Puducherry railway station protesting against the killing of five farmers and arrest of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi at Nayagaon village in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.
The workers, led by Youth Congress president M. Ilayaraja, blocked the Puducherry-Tirupati passenger train as it entered the railway station.
Mr. Ilayaraja said the ruling BJP had been pursuing anti-farmer policy resulting in an agrarian crisis. He said the agriculture sector was in a state of neglect and five farmers who were agitating seeking remunerative prices for their produce were killed in police firing.
