In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly attacked a 19-year-old girl with a knife.
The incident occurred in a private engineering college at Kalitheerthankuppam near here on Tuesday.
The girl sustained serious injuries on her neck and has been admitted to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer), Puducherry.
Police personnel said the girl was studying second-year B. Tech in a private engineering college at Kalitheerthankuppam.
The youth Sugumaran had completed his B. Ed in a private college on the same premises.
The girl was coming out of the college at around 4.45 p.m.
Suddenly Sugumaran waylaid her and picked up an argument with her.
Surrendered
In a fit of rage, the youth attacked the girl with a knife and fled the scene. He later surrendered before the police.
The girl was administered first aid on the college premises and rushed to Jipmer. A case has been registered and further inquiry is on.
