Youth arrested for bid to sell 26 LSD stamps near school

The accused is a graduate in bio-chemistry

The Special Task Force personnel and Lawspet police on Saturday arrested a local youth and seized from him 26 lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) stamps, a mood changing drug, from his custody.

The police gave the name of the accused as Arun, a resident of Vallalar Nagar, Lawspet.

The accused, a medical representative working in Bengaluru, was arrested while he was trying to sell the contraband item to probable customers near Fathima School at Lawspet.

The Lawspet police have booked him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The seized material was estimated to be worth about ₹50,000

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mahesh Kumar Barnwal, the accused is a graduate in bio-chemistry. He procured the drug from Bengaluru and used to sell to regular customers here. He sold the stamp to customers for ₹1,500.

Sometimes the stamp was broken into four parts and each part would fetch him ₹500, he added.

The police have launched a crackdown on drug peddlers following reports of substance abuse being prevalent among students and daily wage earners, he added.
