The Alliance Francaise and the Federation of Film Societies of India will co-host a women’s film festival starting March 8, as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations.

The festival, which is also supported by Navadarshan (film society), will get underway at the Alliance Francaise auditorium at 6.15 p.m. with the screening of Krishna Bibor (The Black Hole - Bengali) by Piyali Shome, following a brief inaugural ceremony at 6 p.m.

The Bengali film shines a light on child sexual harassment and molestation in India.

On subsequent weekends, the festival will hold screenings of Leeches by Payal Sethi — dealing with child marriage — and Tasfiya (Tajikistan) by Sharofat M. Arabova on March 9 and Like the Sun (Egypt) by Hana Mahmoud and Nadhiyude Moonnam Kara (Malayalam) by Fowzia Fathima on March 10.

The Malayalam film is an adaptation of the short story The third bank of the river by Brazilian novelist Joao Guimaraes Rosa that narrates the story of a boy whose father decides to take an unusual journey into the river.

Krishnopokkho (Bangladesh) by Mehr Afroz Shaon, a romance-drama based on the novel of the same name written by Humayun Ahmed, is scheduled for March 17, Pather Sandhan (Bengali) by Sikta Biswas on March 24 and Bokul (Assamese) by Reema Borah on March 31.
