The district administration on Saturday conducted a workshop to demonstrate the working of electronic voting machines and the voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machine for residents of Thandarayankuppam coastal hamlet in Kottakuppam.

The working of EVMs and VVPATs was demonstrated by District Election Officer and Collector L. Subramanian.

Importance of machine

After casting the vote on the electronic voting machine, a voter has to look at the VVPAT. It prints a paper slip displaying the serial number, party symbol and the photo of the candidate the person voted for, thereby helping in the verification of the vote that was casted.

Earlier, around 30 students of a private dance school staged a dance performance to create awareness on the need for ethical voting during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the Villupuram and Kallakurichi Parliamentary constituencies.
