Congress leaders call it a message for Bedi

Attributing Congress candidate’s victory in Kamaraj Nagar byelection to the policies and programmes of his government, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said voters of the constituency had reflected their anger against Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi for the “obstructions” caused by her to the administration.

The Chief Minister told presspersons here on Thursday that the people were aware of the difficulties faced by the government in implementing various welfare and development schemes.

According to him, the people have rejected the All India N.R. Congress as the party did not function as a responsible Opposition.

Minister for Public Works A. Namassivayam, who is also PCC chief, said people wholeheartedly supported the ruling party candidate.

All India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge of the Union Territory Mukul Wasnik, in a tweet, said: “This victory shows that the people have reposed their faith in the pro-people government of the Congress party.”

AICC secretary Sanjay Dutt said voters, while endorsing the policies of the government, had expressed their anguish at the style of functioning of Ms Bedi. “She should resign or the Central government should recall her,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor had been putting hindrance in implementing welfare and development schemes, he said.

Victory rally

Later in the day, Mr. Narayanasamy, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) V. Vaithilingam, and Mr. Namassivayam along with alliance party leaders took out a victory rally in the constituency.
