Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, a constituent of the Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV), recently launched two-wheeler mobile healthcare services to extend the nursing touch to patients in remote parts of the city and adjoining villages.

The services include diabetic care, dressing of wounds, health check-ups, including monitoring blood pressure, geriatric care and collection of blood or urine samples. The outreach programme has been rolled out with a fleet of newly-acquired two-wheelers manned by professional nursing staff.

Subhash Chandra Parija, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, flagged off the services in the presence of Renuka K., Principal, Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, and Swati Jayanth Pawar, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute.

Prof. Parija said, “The aim of the mission is to reach the unreached. The nursing services (through this initiative) will be extended to the poorest of the poor in the remote areas.”

Prof. Renuka said the programme would be scheduled between Monday and Saturday. A faculty (Qualified Nursing Staff) and a student nurse would be posted for the scheme.

During the pilot programme, aged patients, who were non-ambulatory, were treated for their diabetic foot ulcers and other age-related issues.

“This concept of healthcare is attracting good response from the needy non ambulatory patients of remote areas and is largely welcomed by them,” she said.
