Traders to boycott Coke, Pepsi

The Tamil Nadu Traders Federation (TNTF) has announced the boycott of beverages of multi-national companies such as Coke, Pepsi and other products across Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the federation’s president T. Vellaiyan said that a massive bike rally would be organised across various regions in Tamil Nadu during the first week of August explaining the need to boycott these products.

The rally would congregate in Tiruchi and issue a proclamation to promote Indian soft drinks and products. The multi-national products do more harm than good to the body.

“We have taken this decision as it was in Tiruchi that the Maruthu Pandiyar brothers issued a proclamation for Independence from the Tiruchi fort. A similar proclamation will be issued to promote Indian products and to completely boycott multi-national beverages,” he said.

The federation’s president, T. Vellaiyan, said that the first phase would be enforcing the boycott from August 15 followed by taking them off the shelves and removal of name boards. This is the only way to protect retail trade and to totally eliminate domination by multi-national companies in the country, he said.
