Three held, tusks seized

The Puduchathiram police arrested three persons and seized two elephant tusks from them at Alapakkam near Chidambaram on Monday.

A team led by Puduchathiram police inspector Amudha, along with her colleagues from the Delta region, were checking vehicles at Alapakkam when they stopped three persons riding a motorcycle. The police found two tusks carried in a bag and arrested Prakash, 35, of Vanniyar Palayam; Silambarasan, 27, of Vilanigpattu; and Kolunji, 33, of Kurunjipadi.

The police have alerted the Forest Department and launched a search for two others, according to sources.
