A number of faculty members of Thiruvalluvar University Teachers Association staged a sit-in protest on Tuesday demanding appointment to the posts of Controller of Examinations and Registrar on the basis of seniority.

M. Chandran, Associate Professor of Department of Zoology, Thiruvalluvar University, said the two posts fell vacant after P. Asokan, who held both the posts, retired on February 20.

‘Violation of norms’

“Instead of making the appointments on the basis of seniority, two persons have been posted as Controller of Examinations and Registrar in violation of norms. Again, there are no permanent appointments for the posts but only in-charge. There are senior professors who are eligible for the posts,” he said.

He added that the faculty members would continue the protest until their demand was fulfilled.
