The announcement of results for the Thattanchavady bypoll will be delayed as the VVPAT slips will have to be counted. The counting of the slips will be taken up only after the votes polled in the Electronic Voting Machines were counted, said a senior official.

However, the results for the Lok Sabha polls will be announced around noon. There will be three to four rounds of counting for each Assembly segment.

The votes polled in Puducherry region will be counted at Motilal Nehru Polytechnic and Government Women’s Polytechnic at Lawspet on Thursday. Security has been stepped up in and around the counting centres.

The Election Department has directed the closure of all liquor shops on May 23 and 24 owing to counting of votes.
