The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (Amma) faction has demanded an explanation from the government on the reason for suspending Superintendent of Police V. Deivasigamani.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, party leader A. Anbalagan said the Chief Minister should inform the public about the reason for suspending the police officer. He sought to know from the Chief Minister whether there was any complaint against the officer. The Chief Minister was duty- bound to give an explanation on the necessity for initiating disciplinary action against a high-ranking police officer, he added.

The AIADMK leader said the crime rate had increased in the last few months. The government had not shown any resolve to maintain the law and order situation, he said.

He also criticised the government for its failure to implement any of the promises made in the last budget. “Without fulfilling any promises, the government has no right to present another budget,” he said.

Budget promises

The AIADMK leader said major announcements made in the last budget, including farm loan waiver and free power for farmers, were yet to be implemented. He also criticised the BJP-led NDA for foisting false cases on party deputy general secretary T.T.V Dinakaran. The Centre would not succeed in destabilising the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu, he said.
