Stalin trying to tarnish image of Jaya and government: Law Minister

January 14, 2019 01:34 am | Updated 01:34 am IST - VILLUPURAM

Law Minister C.Ve. Shanmugam on Sunday refuted the allegations made by the opposition DMK in the context of the alleged break-in at the Kodanad Estate Bungalow, once used by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, and said that all the documents purportedly linking Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami with the incident were fabricated and false.

Speaking to reporters at Tindivanam near here, Mr. Shanmugam said that if the former Tehelka editor Samuel Mathew was really interested in raising the issue he should have submitted all the documents in the court. He also challenged DMK president M.K. Stalin to face a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the deaths of Ramesh of Anna Nagar and Sadiq Basha, close aide of former Telecom Minister A. Raja.

Mr. Shanmugam said that the AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa was the only leader who never collected any deposit or money from those seeking party tickets. Mr. Stalin is only trying to tarnish the image of the late leader and also the Government on the issue.

The State Government is in total line with the policy and principles of Ms. Jayalalithaa. It has been the practice of Mr. Stalin to issue statements without any facts. This only exposed the DMK’s ulterior motive. Attempts were made by the DMK to stall the distribution of Pongal gifts to cardholders only to ensure that the AIADMK government did not implement any welfare scheme or project in the State.

Mr. Shanmugam also questioned Mr. Mathew’s probity and discipline as an individual. If he had these qualities he could have as well approached the court seeking legal remedy to for his grievance, he said.
