Special teams formed to nab absconding policemen

Police have spread their dragnet to apprehend eight police personnel who are absconding after they were identified by the child sexual assault victims.

A top police official, “As per direction of the Madras High Court, identification parade of eight suspended police personnel and a retired sub-inspector were conducted and the victims identified them as accused.

Police team went in search of the suspended police personnel to their houses. But, they were not available and their whereabouts were not known.

Special teams have been constituted to nab the suspended personnel.”

The sexual assault on children surfaced in May with the rescue of four minor girls. Eight persons including the prime accused Arul Mary were arrested in connection with the case.

Faced with mounting pressure from political parties and social welfare organisations, the Puducherry government placed eight police officers including two inspectors under suspension.

The case is presently handled by the Crime Branch CID.

According to sources, the police teams have conducted interrogation with family members of the absconding delinquent officers and they are also collecting call details on their mobile phones.

In some cases, their relatives were also interrogated to ascertain the whereabouts of the accused.
