Nearly 13 out of 14 students (four visually challenged and 10 hearing impaired students) from Ananda Rangapillai Government Special School for Differently Abled Children in Puducherry cleared the SSLC public examination.

Sixteen-year-old David Kumar S, a visually challenged student from Villupuram studying in the school has scored 442.

He told The Hindu , that he will travel to Chennai in the next few days and find out what he could pursue for higher education.

“I am excited to study in Chennai,” he said.

Gayathri, 16, another visually challenged student from the same school secured 416 marks. Being a native of Villupuram, she stayed at the hostel and studied at Ananda Rangapillai Government School.

Bakya, 19, her sister, said that though Gayathri has scored good marks, the family condition following their mother’s death and financial crisis would not be conducive to send her out for higher education.

Under financial crisis

“Our father is a tea vendor and Gayathri is in a dilemma whether to pursue higher education owing to financial crisis. Even I could not continue my studies and had to start working at a textile outlet,” said Bakya.
