Finding new voters: Chief Electoral Officer V. Candavelou addressing the media in connection with the special drive for enrolment of left out voters in Puducherry on Thursday.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will embark on a special drive from July 1 to 31 to enrol left out voters, particularly those in the age group of 18 to 19.

Chief Electoral Officer V. Candavelou told reporters here on Thursday that the left out eligible electors and those who have completed 18 years of age as on January 1, 2017 can submit Form 6 for inclusion at the Electoral Registration Officer office concerned or through post and online at the National Voters Service Portal of the ECI.

Two special camps will be conducted at all polling stations on July 9 and 23 (Sundays). The booth-level officers (BLOs) would be present at polling booths from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public would have the facility to check the list and submit Form 6 for inclusion.

Special camps

Special camps will be conducted in all colleges to enable eligible electors to submit Form 6.

Arrangements have been made to distribute and collect Form 6 from students appearing for counselling at offices of Centac and Capasc. Mr. Candavelou said that BLOs would carry out door-to-door visit to enrol persons in the 18-19 age group from July 1 to 31 except during the special campaign dates.

Electors could call the State call centre on 1950 and know the procedure.

Special counters would be established at Employment Exchange and at each taluk office to collect forms from students who will be visiting to register their names and obtain certificates.

The special drive is aimed at weeding out the names of dead voters from the list. During the door-to-door campaign, the BLOs can be informed of such details.

The Electoral Registration Officers will remove the names of all dead voters based on the list from the Registrar of Births and Deaths.

Mr. Candavelou said all applications for inclusion in Form 6 and deletion of dead voters through Form 7 received during the special drive will be disposed by August 31.

However, applications for Form 8 (corrections) and applications for transposition of entry of name from one constituency to another (received in Form 8A) during the special drive will be disposed after the completion of special drive.
