As part of making the Union Territory more industry- friendly, the Industries Department is planning to receive online applications for setting up companies.
Participating in a round table jointly organised by NITI Aayog, Industries Secretary H.P.S Sran said the department was working on the modalities of accepting online applications for starting industries.
The department had reduced the time limit for clearance from all departments to 30 days. Once an application was submitted the departments had to work together so that it was cleared within 30 days, the Secretary added.
Jobs to 1.05 lakh
Currently, there are 77 large industries, 191 small and 9002 micro, small and medium enterprises. The companies together provided employment to around 1.05 lakh people in UT, he added.
Interacting in the round table, Secretary Ports P. Parthiban said the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change had cleared the proposal to carry out capital dredging in the Thengaithittu harbour. Once the dredging was completed, dry port would be ready for container shipment, he added.
Firm seeks land
Flectronics, a multinational technological manufacturer, has evinced keen interest in establishing its unit in Puducherry.
Participating in the round table, Charu Smita, senior manager of the company, said the firm was looking forward to establish its unit here. She said the company was looking for 20,000 square metre of land and space for establishing a canteen for its employees.
Responding to her request, the Chief Minister asked the company representative to submit an application.
