Solatium announced to family of undertrial

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Monday announced a compensation of ₹3 lakh to the family of S. Jayamoorthy, an undertrial who died in the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Postgraduate Institute on November 27.

Sources said the Cabinet decided to provide compensation to the family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The victim was picked up from his house for interrogation on November 21 in connection with the theft of a motorcycle and cellphone. He was produced before a local court and sent to the Central Prison at Kalapet. He was taken to the Government Hospital after he complained of uneasiness. However, he died in the hospital on November 27.
