As part of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiatives to spread voter awareness, a solar- powered model polling station has been constructed to facilitate the general public to have a feel of the actual voting experience.

The solar-powered mobile model polling station was built on a lorry and provided with the infrastructure and amenities that would be available in a real polling station.

The model polling station has been equipped with solar panels and has the capacity to generate and store 1.5 KV power which is sufficient for providing power back-up for four hours.

The model polling station functions like a real polling booth manned by polling personnel and provided with voting compartment, electronic voting machines(EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trail for providing hands on experience to the visitors.

A 64-inch television has been installed to play awareness short films, jingles and video spots to the general public. The outer walls of the polling station are pasted with stickers containing awareness messages.

“The vehicle will tour all the constituencies in the UT of Puducherry. The tour schedule of the vehicle will be published in local bilingual newspapers. It also offers electoral roll facilities such as name search, polling station location and enrolment,” V.Candavelou, Chief Electoral officer of Puducherry.
