There is immense scope to improve cooperation between France and Puducherry due to the ‘emotional and cultural’ connect between the people of the two regions, Lt. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said.

Participating in a programme held at the French Consulate as part of the seven-day French Rendezvous-2022 festival on Friday night, Ms. Soundararajan said there is an emotional and cultural connect between the people of France and Puducherry. “The relationship between India and France has been growing for over the years. The growing relationship between both the countries will be of great help to the Union Territory,” she said.

On her exchanges with French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lenain during his visit, the Lt. Governor said they discussed on several areas of cooperation. “Several schemes are being planned. The government will support all the activities of French government in the Union Territory,” the Lt. Governor said.

Exuding confidence in working with the government, Mr. Lenain in his address said the core of friendship is culture and the great bondage between people. “There is a growing interest among Indian students to learn French and this was evident in the number of people getting enrolled at the centres of Alliance Franchaise. The centre at Puducherry has got good potential for further growth,” he added.

Speaker R. Selvam, Minister for Public Works K. Lakshminarayanan, Minister for Culture S. Chandirapriyanga and Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar were present.
