On the day to mark the discovery of Raman Effect by physicist Sir C.V. Raman, the Indian Science Congress Association, Puducherry Chapter, along with Centre for Bioinformatics, Pondicherry University and Pondicherry Science Forum, organised the National Science Day in Puducherry.
The two-day event was conducted under the theme ‘Science and Technology for Specially abled Persons’.
On Monday, Pondicherry Science Forum organised an interaction programme with the teachers to sensitise and train them in recognising disability and teaching specially abled students accordingly at Pope John Paul College.
“Nearly 150 teachers participated in the programme,” said A. Hemavathi, General Secretary, Pondicherry Science Forum.
She added that another event was organised at the Mother Theresa Postgraduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences on Monday afternoon.
To encourage the participation of specially abled children, several competitions such as drawing, quiz and essay were held and the winners were brought to the Pondicherry University to be felicitated on Tuesday.
T.V. Venkateswaran, scientist, Vigyan Prasar, National Institute for Science Communication, department of science and technology, New Delhi, explained to students why astronauts float in space. He was speaking at the inaugural function of the National Science Day Celebrations organised at Pondicherry University on Tuesday. At least 275 students from 27 schools participated in the event.
