Restrictions are in force regarding the use of flags and stickers in private vehicles, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) V. Candavelou has said.

In a press note, the CEO stated that as per para 8 (a) of Election Commission of India's instructions, display of flag and stickers in private vehicles is allowed subject to the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) and Rules there under and court orders in force.

The CEO pointed to the Election Commission’s notification on April 4 invoking section 4 of Puducherry Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 2000. Therefore, small flags and stickers not attracting provisions of MVA, may be displayed if put on own volition of the owner. But, the flag and stickers should be displayed in such a manner that they do not cause inconvenience to road users. In the eventuality of such display soliciting vote for any particular candidate then the provisions of section 171 (H) of IPC would have to be strictly followed, the CEO said.
