Residents of Muthialpet on Monday resorted to a road blockade on Mahatma Gandhi road protesting against unscheduled power cuts. Traffic was disrupted for a while on the arterial road.

The agitators raised slogans against the Electricity Department for frequent disruption in power supply.

Residents of Muthialpet and surrounding areas have been facing serious power crisis for over a fortnight now and repeated complaints to the Electricity department has failed to bring any respite from the persisting problem.

“We decided to take to the streets because in the last couple of days the increase in power cut duration had risen alarmingly,” a section of the residents claimed.

It was only after senior officials rushed to the spot and assured the agitators of addressing their problems that the protest was called off.
