Heavy rain lashed various parts of Puducherry on Tuesday throwing normal life out of gear and leaving several low-lying areas inundated.
Roads in Krishna Nagar and Rainbow Nagar were left damaged, with motorists finding it difficult to negotiate.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in Puducherry and Cuddalore on Wednesday.
According to the IMD update, the well-marked low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal and equatorial Indian Ocean now lies over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining northeast Sri Lanka as of Tuesday. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours. The system is expected to bring scattered heavy with isolated very heavy rain over Cuddalore, Villupuram and Puducherry regions.
Meanwhile, two truckloads of relief materials were despatched from the Cuddalore Collectorate on Tuesday, for cyclone-ravaged victims in the delta districts of Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur. A total of 14 items, including drinking water, rice, flour, biscuit packets, milk powder, candles, mosquito repellents, torchlights with batteries, clothes, blankets and mats were sent in two lorries.
The lorries were flagged off by District Collector V. Anbuselvan.
The materials, mostly contributed by people, private institutions and non-governmental organisations were collected over the last few days and despatched to Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts. Sub-Collector Sarayu and officials were present.
The district administration has also appealed to people to stock essentials including food, milk packets and water bottles.
