A realtor was hacked to death by a gang on the Edayanchavadi Road near the international township of Auroville on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Kothandaraman alias Babu, 40, of Kuyavarpalayam. According to the police, the incident occurred around 5.15 p.m.
Babu was going on his two-wheeler from Kuyavarpalayam to Edayanchavadi when an SUV coming in the opposite direction hit his two-wheeler.
Babu lost his balance and fell down from the vehicle when a gang, armed with sharp edged weapons, travelling in the SUV hurled a country-made bomb at him.
As Babu attempted to flee, the gang surrounded him and hacked him to death.
The Auroville police sent the body for post-mortem. A case had been registered, and further investigations are on.
