Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has challenged All India N. R. Congress chief N. Rangasamy to publicly endorse the candidature of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister of the country.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Narayanasamy said the AINRC had entered into an understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Lok Sabha polls.
The Chief Minister said Mr. Rangasamy had never uttered a word on the candidature of Mr. Modi. “He should state whether he supports the candidature of Mr. Modi or Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
The AINRC chief was running a campaign as if he was seeking votes for an Assembly election, he added.
The Chief Minister refused to comment on AIADMK leader A. Anbalagan’s statement that it would be difficult for the CM to “cross Kottakuppam if he rubs AIADMK on the wrong side.” “It is his culture. I will not comment,” he added.
BJP against South
The voters in this region of the country will give a fitting a reply to the BJP as it was against the South Indian States, he said. “BJP is a party of few people in North. It is against the South Indian States, particularly towards the Union Territory,” he added.
The National Democratic Alliance had ignored the demands, especially on financial assistance, made by the Union Territory, said Mr. Narayanasamy.
The Congress had made a commitment in its manifesto to provide Statehood to the Union Territory, he said adding the Congress candidate V. Vaithilingam would register a convincing victory in the Lok Sabha polls.
Earlier in the day, he held a door-to-door campaign in his Nellithope constituency and a road show in Thirubuvanai constituency.
