The birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was observed on Monday here.

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Speaker V. Vaithilingam, Minister for Public Works A. Namassivayam, Minister for Social Welfare M. Kandasamy. Minister for Revenue M.O.H.F. Shahjahan, Minister for Agriculture R. Kamalakannan and Congress functionaries offered floral tributes at the statue of the former prime minister.

The Chief Minister also administered pledge to promote unity and harmony to mark the birth anniversary. Another function was held at the Secretariat, where officials took a similar pledge. Congress functionaries organised various functions in all 30 constituencies.

They distributed sweets to the public. Government Whip R.K.R. Anantharaman led the celebrations at Thavalakuppam.
