The Joint Action Committee of Pondicherry University teaching and non-teaching staff association (PUTA) on Thursday staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi seeking the immediate removal of Chandra Krishnamurthy, Vice-chancellor of Pondicherry University.

Representatives of the JAC also submitted a memorandum to the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and apprised her of the situation.

Though the Fact Finding Committee constituted by the HRD Ministry had submitted its report about three months ago no action had been taken so far against the Vice Chancellor. The Union Government should immediately intervene and remove the Vice Chancellor as her continuance in the post would cause an irreparable damage to the University.

The president of Federation of Central Universities Teachers Associations Nandita Narayan, General Secretary of All India Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations, A.K. Barman and G. Sugumaran, Secretary, Federation for People's Rights participated.
