S. Sundari Nanda took over as the Union Territory’s first woman Director-General of Police on Monday.
She replaces the incumbent DGP S.K. Gautam, who has been transferred to New Delhi.
Ms. Nanda, a 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, earlier served as the Special Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), Delhi police.
Ms. Nanda was given the guard of honour at the Police Headquarters here, where she arrived on Monday to take charge.
In a brief interaction with the media after assuming charge, Ms. Nanda said top priority would be accorded to maintaining law and order to ensure peace and development in Puducherry. “I will continue to take forward all the good schemes that have been implemented by Mr. Gautam and former DGPs here,” she said.
