Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Tuesday said that the Puducherry Government had sought an assistance of ₹187 crore from the Centre towards cyclone relief for Karaikal region.

Speaking to reporters in his chamber in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Narayanasamy said that the Government would submit its interim report on the extent of damages to infrastructure and fishing boats to the Centre on Wednesday.

Mr. Narayanasamy said that he would leave for Delhi on November 22 to seek Central assistance.

“We have sought appointment with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the Puducherry Government will furnish all details of the damages in Cyclone hit Karaikal. We will also request the Centre to depute a Central team to Karaikal to assess the damages caused by the Cyclone,” he said.

Compensation

The Chief Minister also announced a compensation of ₹2,000 each to around 9,500 thatched huts in Karaikal. The Government will also provide a compensation of ₹.4,100 each to around 1,100 fully damaged houses. The administration has also released ₹.64 lakh as interim relief to provide assistance to fishing boats damaged in the cyclone Gaja.
